Car Paint Repair
If you need to do a car paint repair and don’t know where to start, you are in the right place. Here you will find step-by-step instructions on how to repair all kind of paint scratches and chips. I will also tell you what tools and products you need to make your car look like new again.
We all know that a small scratch can detract from a beautiful paint job, just as much as a bigger scratch. Paint scratches and dents are inevitable over the course of life of a car. Even if you bought a brand new vehicle and took good care of it, after a while it will get scratched from road debris, branches or little stones from the gravel driveway. If you don’t have a car garage in your house and park your car outside without any protection, you also have to worry about weather conditions like heat, frost, rain, snow and hail.
Driving a beautifully painted car is not only enjoyable, but it is also very important for resale value. It will be more difficult for you to sell a scratched car, because a lot of people when they see just a few paint scratches, think that you have to repaint the whole car. No one wants to invest a lot of time and money on fixing it. Auto shops can charge anywhere from $200 and up to repair a minor scratch. In my free do-it-yourself guide I will show you how to get rid of small and large scratches at a fraction of the cost.
If you’ve noticed new scratches or chips on your car, it is recommended to fix them right away. After some time, depending on how deep the scratch is, rust can set in, causing permanent damage.
No scratch is the same; each scratch differs in size and depth. There are 4 layers that the scratch can go into. First is a clear coat, second is the paint, third is the primer and fourth is the metal. Most scratches penetrate only the clearcoat leaving remaining layers intact. These scratches can be easily removed with a little sanding, some buffing and waxing.
If an object that rubbed against your car, is softer than the car’s paint, it will only leave a mark on the surface above the paint. If an object is harder than the car’s paint, it will definitely leave a scratch. Depending on how deep the scratch is, you will use different car paint repair techniques.
